New York State's Distributed PV Installed Capacity Has Reached 4GW Sep 29, 2022
New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced that the state has reached a new milestone with the installation of 4GW of distributed PV systems to date, including community PV systems, residential PV systems, small commercial and industrial PV systems. The PV systems installed are enough to power 710,000 households in the state, she said.

She noted that since the state launched the NY-Sun program in 2012, the cost of PV systems installed in the state has dropped by 70%, as PV system installations have grown by nearly 2,900%. This has driven $6.4 billion in private investment and created more than 12,000 jobs in New York State.

Combined with PV projects under development and achieving commercial operation, the 4GW milestone of distributed PV systems installed puts New York State on track to surpass its goal of 6GW of distributed PV systems installed by 2025, an official statement said. The state has also set a goal of installing 10GW of distributed photovoltaic systems by 2030. To help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, enhance electricity supply, and lower people's electricity bills.
