Photovoltaic Science Knowledge Aug 01, 2022

Photovoltaic is the abbreviation of solar photovoltaic power generation system. It is a new type of power generation system that uses the photovoltaic effect of solar cell semiconductor materials to directly convert solar radiation energy into electrical energy. There are two modes of independent operation and grid-connected operation.

1. What is photovoltaic power generation?

Photovoltaic power generation refers to the use of solar photovoltaic cells to directly convert solar radiation energy into electrical energy. Photovoltaic power generation is the mainstream of solar power generation today, so what people usually say about solar power generation now mainly refers to photovoltaic power generation.

Distributed photovoltaic power generation refers to photovoltaic power generation facilities that are constructed near the user's site, the operation mode is mainly based on the user's self-consumption, excess power is connected to the Internet, and the power distribution system is balanced and adjusted.

Distributed photovoltaic power generation follows the principles of adapting measures to local conditions, clean and efficient, decentralized layout, and nearby utilization, and makes full use of local solar energy resources to replace and reduce fossil energy consumption.

2. How do photovoltaic cells generate electricity?

Photovoltaic cell is a semiconductor device with light-to-electricity conversion characteristics, which directly converts solar radiation energy into direct current, and is the most basic unit of photovoltaic power generation. The unique electrical characteristics of photovoltaic cells are by doping certain elements (such as phosphorus or boron, etc.) into crystalline silicon, thereby causing a permanent imbalance in the molecular charge of the material, forming a semiconductor material with special electrical properties. Under sunlight, free charges can be generated in semiconductors with special electrical properties. These free charges move in a direction and accumulate to form an electromotive force at both ends. When the two ends are closed with a conductor, a current is generated. This kind of home is called "photovoltaic effect", or "photovoltaic effect" for short.

3. What are the components of the photovoltaic power generation system?

The photovoltaic power generation system consists of a photovoltaic array (a photovoltaic array is formed by solar panel in series and parallel), a controller, a battery pack, and a DC/AC solar inverter. The core component of the photovoltaic power generation system is the photovoltaic module, and the photovoltaic module is composed of photovoltaic cells in series, parallel and packaged, which directly converts the light energy of the sun into electrical energy. The electricity generated by photovoltaic modules is direct current, which can be used directly or converted into alternating current by an inverter. From another point of view, the electrical energy generated by the photovoltaic power generation system can be used immediately, or it can be stored by energy storage devices such as batteries and released for use at any time as needed.
